It allows couples to savor a sacred and private moment together.
There isn’t much time on your wedding day to be with your new spouse. Setting aside time before your ceremony gives you a moment to connect, pray, and be intentional without feeling rushed. It gives you time to relish in the joy of each other and finally see what their wedding attire looks like. This moment can be totally private and personal, which allows each person to express their emotions freely! Your groom can see you for the first time without the pressure of everyone else watching.
It brings peace and can relieve nerves.
Getting a little anxious on your wedding day is totally normal! Having the presence of your spouse with you for the moments leading to the ceremony can be a huge relief and source of comfort. I believe there are 2 different sets of emotions that happen on a wedding day. There’s the excitement surrounding what each of you will look like in your wedding attire (Finally answering the big question, “What does her dress look like?) and the excitement surrounding the act of getting married! Having some of the anxious excitement calmed can help you fully enter into that special moment when you walk down the aisle.
It creates more space in the schedule.
When you have a first look, you are able to schedule in pictures with your bridal party and family before the ceremony. If most of your formal pictures are finished, this allows you more time to be present with your guests, family, and friends after the ceremony. You could even attend part of your cocktail hour and mingle with your guests!
✨ I usually recommend that you set aside 25-40 mins in your schedule for your first look, especially if part of that time includes some couple pictures.
Pro Tip: For couples who like the idea of the traditional aisle reveal, consider doing your first look in the Church or nearby chapel if possible to keep the theme sacred!
